Personal Statement
My personal goal is quite simple - to succeed , in all that I aspire to achieve. I'm gonna share just one example of how I've become successful. It was one pitch, one swing, one at bat. This at bat will describe not only my qualities as a player but also my qualities as a person going through life. It was 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. The first two batters got on base. They managed to move to second and third after a groundout. Then it was time for me to step to the plate. I was 1 for 3 going into the at bat. I stepped into the box with no thought of my previous plate appearances. The only thing I was focused on was the task at hand , to get on base and get the runners home. The first pitch was outside called for a strike. I decided to let that one go because it wasn't a good enough pitch to go for with no strikes. The next pitch he threw me a was high and inside so I went for it and fouled it off. I knew it was a mistake to swing at that pitch with only one strike, but I learned from that and moved on. So now it was an 0-2 count and here came the curve on the outside part of the plate. It wasn't a good enough pitch to hit but it was close to being strike three so I just fouled it off. I stepped out of the box to gather myself and I processed the last pitch, thinking he would probably go back to the fastball because he didn't fool me with the curve. Sure enough the next pitch he threw a fastball right in my zone and I squared it up into the left field gap. I reached second with a double and I knew I had gotten the job done. I hit the runners in and tied the game. My mental approach to the game strongly resembles my approach to everyday life. Some say failure is not an option, but the truth of the matter is in baseball you fail more than you succeed. The way you deal with your failures determines the player or person you will become. You must accept your failures, learn from them, and move on. Life is all about living in the now. You shouldn't be worried about the past or future only worry about what you can control.
My motto in baseball is “You can always show hustle”. My dad ingrained this thought into my head from day one. He told me no matter what the outcome is you can always show hustle. Til this day I still live by that. Whether I pop out or ground out I always try to leg it out at first. Sometimes because of that I turn an error into a double or even a triple. My motto really isn't just for baseball it can be translated into anything you do during your life whether it's school or even a job. You can always show effort in what you do no matter what it is. If you put forth the effort and hard work anything is possible.
