Vanessa D. Flythe – Metropolitan Funeral

Our beloved Vanessa “Vae” Dale Flythe was called home on Sunday, February 26, 2023. She fought her illness courageously and passed away at the Maryview Medical Center. Vanessa was born on October 30, 1955 in Newsome, Virginia to the late Maynard and Lillian Powell Flythe. Vanessa was an active member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church under Bishop Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. During her time at St. Mark, Vanessa enjoyed attending bible study, Sunday school, revivals and the morning service. Along the years, Vanessa was a part of the Missionary Ministry, Benjamin Tribe, a helping hand with the Child Care Ministry and the Food Bank.
Vanessa’s hobbies included walking, riding the bus, watching Wavy TV 10, Good Times, Lifetime, and Days of our Lives. Vanessa loved to cook fried chicken, fish and noodles. No one who met Vanessa could forget her infectious smile. Vanessa was known for her nurturing, caring, patient and compassionate spirit, which she expressed over 4 decades as she cared for a host of nieces and nephews. Vanessa is survived by her daughter Robin Flythe, her five siblings Gloria Flythe Jones of Portsmouth, Virginia, Diane Flythe Merriweather (Jessie) of Freeport, New York, Gaynell Hollmon, Raymond Flythe ( Fannie) of Baltimore, Maryland and Milton Flythe(Carol) of Baltimore, Maryland. She also leaves to cherish her memories nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends. She was predeceased by her sister Mamie Flythe Simmons and three brothers, Bruce Flythe, Harold Flythe and Maynard Flythe Jr.
