The Kowalski family comprises four members. The parents Jack Kowalski and Beata Kowalski had once-a-happy household with two children.
Before watching the documentary, let's learn a little about each member of the household.
Maya Kowalski
Maya came into this world in the year 2006 currently she is 17 years old. She was raised in St. Petersburg along with her brother Kyle.
In 2015, she was diagnosed with CPRS, a condition with chronic pain that often affects the arms or legs. When she was nine years old, she began experiencing headaches and asthma attacks.
After some time, lesions began forming on her arms and legs, and also her feet were curling and cramping. Later, Dr. Anthony Kirkpatrick identified her symptoms for CPRS and treated the disease with infusions of ketamine.
Beata Kowalski
Beata was an immigrant from Poland who worked as a registered nurse.
She was accused of child abuse due to Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSP), a psychological disorder where the caretaker of a child makes up fake symptoms or creates the real symptoms in order for the kid to appear injured or ill.
When the investigation began, she was ordered by the court to undergo a psychological evaluation. The results of the evaluation stated that Beata wasn't mentally ill.
Jack Kowalski
Jack is the patriarch of the family and the only surviving parent of the two kids. He previously worked as Deputy Fire Cheif at Elmhurst's Broadview Fire Department.
Jack retired from his job in order to spend more quality time with his wife and children. After his retirement, he along with his loved ones relocated to Venice, Florida to start a new life.
When Maya started to get sick, Jack usually stayed home to take care of his son while Beata accompanied their daughter to the hospital.
Kyle Kowalski
Kyle is the youngest member of the household. He was born in the year 2008 and currently, Kyle is 15 years old. The siblings are two years apart from each other.
