Skylar Thompson was born as one of the children of Brad Thompson and the late Teresa Thompson.
He was six years old when his mother was diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer. She received chemotherapy at the Tulsa-based Cancer Treatment Center of America, but the treatment didn't help much as it was already too late by then.
At the time, Skylar's father Brad worked as a principal at the Palmyra High School in Missouri. He was devastated by the cancer diagnosis of his wife but remained strong for the welfare of his kids.
Similarly, Skylar's mother also never showed any signs of weakness in front of the children and always supported them. Teresa passed away on May 11, 2004, less than a month before his seventh birthday.
The news of his mother's death became more devastating as he had lost his grandfather only a few months. His grandfather, who was also a football fan, died of pancreatic cancer on October 23, 2003.
After his mother's death, Skylar began bonding with his father. And as time passed, Brad started dating Katherine Ann Burns who eventually became his stepmother.
Brad and Katherine got married after a while, and the family shifted to Missouri where he got a job as Fort Osage High School's freshmen center principal.
