Phillip Terrence Ragon, also known as “Terry,” is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist with a net worth of $1.7 billion. He graduated from MIT in 1971 and six years later founded InterSystems, which he still owns and runs as CEO. InterSystems is a private vendor of software systems and technology for high-performance database management, integration, rapid application development and healthcare information systems. In 2012, the company had revenues of $443 million, with leading digital health records software vendor Epic Systems as its biggest customer.
Under Ragon’s leadership, InterSystems has become a thriving company that sells databases for electronic health records. These databases allow doctors to quickly retrieve patient information. Ragon and his wife, Susan, who is an executive at InterSystems, pledged $100 million over 10 years to establish the Ragon Institute of MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital), MIT, and Harvard. The institute is working on the development of an HIV vaccine.
