Egyptian actress Laila Elwi has decided after a long absence to return to the theater stage and TV this season. Her first performance will be for a play, whose name has not been revealed, beginning end of January.
According to the London based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat, Laila will also be taking part in a new TV series currently being written by screenwriter Wahid Hamid called “Bint Meen Fi Masr” (The Daughter of Who in Egypt).
Laila had expressed to the daily her disappointment for not completing the film “Bahib el Cinema” (I Love The Cinema), costarring Mahmoud Hamida and directed by Osama Fouzy, due to the increasing cost of cinema productions. She added this is the first time in her life that a film production she worked on has been forced to cut short and not completing it.
It is also noted that her film “Nora Wa Naar” (Light and Fire), which she played the leading role in, has been put on the shelves for the past five years without screening. The actress expressed her desire to be able to screen the movie in the near future saying it’s a loss that such a good film has not seen the light of the screen.
On a different note, in June the actress described the quittance of some Egyptian actresses and their wearing of veil as a strange phenomenon that aroused some question marks, but she did not confirm the presence of certain groups behind this phenomenon as some people claim.
Elwi expressed her astonishment with the spread of this phenomenon among young girls adding that the fame of artists is the main thing that makes them enter the spotlight. Responding to a question about the blasts against the Egyptian films for some of their daring scenes, Elwi said, “I have been advocating realistic scenes in the Egyptian films since the time of the black and white movies.” The actress pointed out that she couldn’t judge the film Muthakarat Murahiqa (adolescent memoirs) directed by Enas al Deghaidi because she has not seen it.
Elwi who appeared slender denied the latest rumors that she was also gearing up for releasing a musical album like other actresses despite the fact that she said that she favored the album of actress Yusra and enjoyed seeing its video clip. - Albawaba.com
