Personal Statement
My name is Katelyn Howard and I am a senior at Milwaukie High School. Soccer is my passion and my goal is to play soccer at the collegiate level. In the fall of 2015, I was selected to the ODP Girls 2000 team and I competed and trained at a higher level than I had before and I really enjoyed the experience. I play year round and train to get better each and every day. During my sophomore year I took a weight training class, which helped me add muscle and become a much stronger person, which makes me a stronger player on the field. I continued that weight program in the summer AMD workouts at my high school. My strengths on the soccer field is my ability to finish, footwork and to pass the ball well. I see the field and where my teammates are so that I can make accurate passes. I am an unselfish player and look to pass or shoot depending on the situation. Last year left my club soccer team of 6 years to join a more competitive team with higher skilled players. I realized while training with ODP that I needed to make a change. It was a difficult decision to leave my coach, my teammates and join a different team. I knew it was a decision that I had to make to take my game to a higher level and to reach my goal of being a collegiate soccer player.
I am a strong student and recently completed my junior year with a 3.8 GPA. I work hard in the classroom and on the field and that is why I would be a good match for any college soccer programs. I was awarded Athlete of the Week by my school for my performance on the field and in the classroom. During my junior season I had my best start scoring in every game we have played including a hat trick in my first game. I finished the season with 15 goals and 8 assists. I was voted a captain for my team and take the responsibility seriously. I play on a very young team and hope to provide guidance to our younger players and set a good example for them. My senior year was a bit different and I was challenged to play not only as a forward, but as a center attacker. My finish is good, but I have developed my passing game tremendously over the last 2 seasons. This is the first season that I have had more assists than goals. I finished my senior season with 11 goals and 12 assists. If I feel I can set up a teammate to take a better shot than I can take I do. Many of my teammates this year scored goals, which has been different in past years. In one game we scored 11 goals from 9 different players. I'm a very unselfish player and look for passing opportunities to help bring my team the win.
I would be a great asset to any college program because of my dedication to soccer, my love of the game and my commitment to keep improving.
Thank you.
