PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am currently a goaltender for the Red Raiders varsity prep team in the MPHL. I am 6' 1" tall, 165lb and still growing. I have played hockey for the past 9 years. I am the first person in my extended family to play hockey, so I've had to work hard and advance without connections. When I didn't make the team I wanted, it motivated me to work even harder. I always put my best effort forward and give my team a chance to win each time I play. I am committed to being the best goalie and team mate that I can possibly be. I am a serious student and that is reflected in my 3.5 GPA. In addition to goaltending, I play lacrosse, sing in choir and I’m an avid sportsman and enjoy hunting and fly fishing when I can fit it in.
One thing that sets me apart from others is that I attend every ice session with a serious work effort, making the most of valuable ice time. I am a butterfly goalie with strong footwork skills. I am a leader in the defensive zone, helping guide my team mates by pointing out opportunities and threats. I have excellent rebound control and I battle through the traffic for the puck, even when it seems there is no chance. I have a very good hockey sense and am skilled at predicting plays due to a keen awareness of the game and what is happening in my zone. Puck handling is a noteworthy strength and I’ve been known to log an assist most seasons. I have a strong head game and can easily recover from a goal and shut the rowdiest of fans out of my mental space.
Math is my favorite subject and hockey led me there. I’ve always loved sports statistics, playing angles and have easily been able to connect a love for math with my love for hockey. At this time, I am interested in pursuing a career in a math and science-related field, such as engineering or mathematics.
I am very excited to plan my next move and am interested in learning about your college and how it might be a good fit for my educational and athletic interests.
