“Irrelevant” by Pink

Pink is sort of an elder stateswoman in the pop game. Relatively speaking, she’s a bit up there in age yet at the same time is often categorized with singers from the younger generation. So perhaps it can be said that authority, if you will, has also contributed to her being known as one of the most-outspoken musicians out there.

And with that in mind, recently the Supreme Court reversed the legendary Roe v. Wade (1973) ruling, therefore making it legal for respective states in the US to decide whether abortion is legal within their borders or not. That decision pissed a lot of people off in somewhat-unimaginable ways as far as court rulings tend to be concerned. And amongst the musicians who have thus far spoken out on the matter, virtually all of them have been pro-abortion.

So it can be said that such a disposition is the de facto industry standard. For instance, in the wake of this rule change, we have yet to readily come across a trending musician supporting a pro-life stance. And as for Pink, she basically went as far as to tell people of such an inclination not to patronize her music any longer.

The Theme of “Irrelevant”

During the aforementioned Twitter-based mini tirade, Pink also spoke out in support of homosexuals and victims of racism since these days, it’s as if gays and non-Whites are all considered the same within the context of modern Western civilization. And it is that sentiment which lies at the center of “Irrelevant”.

The vocalist is empathizing with the underdogs of society, envisioning a day in which all will be accepted as they are. Indeed she even namedrops Jesus himself as an example of someone who would “gladly take us all” instead of judging people by their life choices or what have you. And it seems that the thesis sentiment of this track is that as long as such divisions exist, none of us, including our children, can truly live at peace.

We just want to have rights!

And the pro-abortion part comes in the bridge. Going back to those who lost their sh*t when the Supreme Court recently made that decision, by and large said individuals appear to be women. And what such-minded females are spazzing about, most simply put, is the feeling that not being able to legally have an abortion is an affront to their rights.

Lyrics of Pink's "Irrelevant"

Truthfully, it seems like the type of a matter that a person can’t really speak on unless they themselves are a woman. And as presented by Pink, who never actually uses the word abortion, that’s what it comes down to, i.e. feeling as if the law is trampling on the rights of women.

So maybe it can be said that the recent ruling made her sympathize with the likes of minorities, a group that has traditionally had their rights legally limited.

The way Pink phrases it is along the lines of such individuals being deemed “irrelevant” and “insignificant” by the powers that be, but she personally is not privy to being minimized by anyone.

When did Pink release “Irrelevant”?

As of the writing of this post, Pink has not put out a studio album since 2019’s “Hurts 2B Human”.

“Irrelevant”, which came out on 14 July 2022, is her first single of said year.

As reported, this is actually a surprise release that was prompted by the songstress, as relayed, being more or less being pissed off with the state of the world. And accordingly proceeds from this single are slated to be donated to a project called When We All Vote. This project is spearheaded by former First Lady Michelle Obama. In addition to Mrs. Obama, a number of other famous personalities are also formally involved in it.
