The Philadelphia Eagles survived what could have been a trap game as a big road favorite by overcoming a 14-14 halftime score to post a 29-17 win over Houston in the Week 9 Thursday Night Football game.
Houston got out to a great start with a nine-play, 75-yard touchdown drive after receiving the opening kickoff, but Philadelphia responded with an 18-play, 83-yard touchdown drive capped by a 2-yard run by Miles Sanders. The 18 plays set a season high for the Eagles.
The Texans offense stayed in gear in the second quarter largely due to the efforts of Dameon Pierce, who ended the game with a season-high 139 yards on 27 carries. His gains were key to Houston posting another touchdown near the end of that quarter to tie the game at 14.
The second half belonged to the Eagles, as Jalen Hurts threw touchdown passes to Dallas Goedert and A.J. Brown to vault Philadelphia to a commanding 12-point fourth-quarter lead.
Philadelphia defensive tackle Javon Hargrave was the defensive star of the game, as he tallied three sacks, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and seven tackles in the contest.
The Eagles won the turnover differential in this matchup by a 1-to-2 margin. This makes Philadelphia the first team to have a positive turnover differential in each of the first eight games of a season since the 1972 Pittsburgh Steelers (per the Amazon Prime broadcast).
The Eagles (8-0 for the first time in team history) host Washington in the Week 10 Monday Night Football game. Houston (1-6-1) has a road matchup against the Giants in Week 10.
