Hans Osth's Men's Basketball Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

My basketball coach says to us before every game that he needs leaders out on the court because he can't suit up with us. Being a leader isn't always about scoring the most points, having the most assists or rebounds. Stepping up to be a leader is more important when your team is discouraged and you're on the losing side. As a starter my freshman year, I was "baptized by fire" into varsity play. At that time I was one of the smaller players on the court, but I used that to my advantage by moving around my opponent quickly. That year I received Second Team All District. My sophomore year I received Second Team All District as well as Offensive Player of the Year. Junior year I received First Team All District, Team MVP, and led my team to the playoffs for the first time in twenty years. Now in my Senior year, I can use my current height of 6'4" to my advantage, as well as the valuable skills I've learned through several years of playing basketball.

I believe college is an opportunity to explore interests. Along with playing collegiate basketball, a career in a history or health field appeals to me. At the same time, I also enjoy natural history.

I strive to do well in tasks handed to me. This mindset I carry over from athletics, into my studies and my life at home on our family farm. Being a student athlete has taught me the sometimes difficult balance between studies and practice. I am currently ranked second in my class. This student athlete dedication drives me to finish what I start and never give up! It doesn't matter what the score is, I will try my best to find a way for the team to score and come out on top.
