Dr Now has tended to countless patients on My 600-Lb Life but sadly, some of them have died after their TLC weight loss journey. One particular passing rocked the fandom in June 2023 after the star died just three days after his 49th birthday.

Sean Milliken

Sean Milliken died in February 2019 of complications from an infection, his father announced on Facebook, as reported by TMZ.

He appeared on My 600-Lb. Life in 2016 at age 26, weighing around 900 lbs. He and his mother, Renee, relocated to Houston so he could get weight loss surgery. He successfully shed 400lbs but was devastated after Renee died in 2017.

Larry Myers Jr

Gospel singer Larry Myers, 49, won the hearts of fans with his song about his favorite food, earning him the nickname, Mr Buttermilk Biscuits. Larry Myers tragically died on June 13, 2023, just three days after his birthday.

The season 10 star was bedridden and made his debut weighing 940lb. He explained his binge eating was due to the death of his mother and nephew.

Before his death, Myers had a healthier lifestyle as he was seen boxing and eating salads.

Destinee LaShaee

Season 7’s Destinee LaShaee weighed almost 700lbs and reportedly went on to lose 500lbs in total. She transitioned from male to female in young adulthood and became the show’s first transgender cast member.

Destinee died on February 8, 2022 at age 31.

Lisa Fleming

Lisa Fleming dropped out of Dr Now‘s program during season 6. She weighed over 700lbs and was bedridden for years, relying on her children. Her eating habits reportedly developed after her parents’ divorce and her brother’s death devastated her.

She lost 200lbs after undergoing weight loss surgery. Fleming died on August 23, 2018 at age 50, not long after filming wrapped. Her daughter told TMZ that the death was unrelated to her weight and said she was sick before the show.

Angela Gutierrez

Angela Gutierrez was 49 years old when she died on March 21, 2023. The season 7 patient who weighed 607lbs had a a rocky beginning as she refused to attend her appointment with Dr Now. She eventually committed to the weight loss plan but went on to quit the program.

Robert Buchel

Robert Buchel was the first member to pass away during the filming process. The season 6 star weighed 842lbs and went on to lose 340lbs after surgery. He suffered a heart attack on November 15 2017 and passed away at age 41.

James King

James King passed away at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 49 on April 3, 2020. He weighed 791lbs during season 5 and was dismissed from the show for not cooperating with Dr Now.

King returned to TLC in My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now? reportedly weighing 840lbs. In late 2017, James was in the ICU, due to sepsis, cirrhosis, and kidney failure.

Kelly Mason

North Carolina native Kelly Mason weighed over 700lbs in season 7 and suffered from arthritis, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

She lost 320lbs after surgery but tragically died in her sleep due to cardiac arrest, making her the second participant to pass away during filming, after Robert Buchel.

According to The List, Dr Now clarified that her death wasn’t the result of her reverting to her eating habits. “The damage to her heart up to this point was just too severe,” he said.

Other cast members who passed away are Henry Foots, Coliesa McMillian, Renee Biran, and Gina Krasley.
