Eric Fulton Death – Late Wednesday, a 22-year-old man was involved in a pursuit with authorities in a stolen Ford Mustang. Eventually, he crashed into an Uber on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, killing both the driver and a passenger. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred in the southbound lanes close to the northern rest area on the bridge shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday morning traffic was delayed until 7 a.m. due to the lanes being stopped until the accident and investigation were completed. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the troopers in relation to the stolen car, according to authorities. The motorist slammed into an HCSO patrol vehicle and then sped off south on I-275.
The sheriff’s helicopter tracked the car. At the Skyway Bridge, a trooper from the Florida Highway Patrol tried to pull over the Mustang. The motorist hit the FHP vehicle, kept going south until he reached the top of the bridge, then swung around and struck the FHP vehicle again. He then continued to drive very fast, this time taking the southbound lanes of I-275 to go north. A Dodge Caravan, which was carrying four people, was head-on crashed into the mustang. Both the male Uber driver (33 years old) and his male passenger (52 years old) were killed in the crash.
In addition to the driver of the Mustang, two other female passengers, aged 52 and 24, sustained significant injuries and were taken to local hospitals. All of the people riding in the Uber are from Ohio. Also transferred to a local hospital were the trooper’s minor injuries; he is 27 years old and has served for two years with the FHP. Leosvany Arias Roman, a 22-year-old from Hialeah, is facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, aggravated fleeing and evading involving death, driving while license suspended involving death, and battery on a law enforcement officer. He was arrested for these offenses.
