Tony Parker was drafted as the 28th pick of the first round of the 2001 NBA draft and became a starting point guard for the San Antonio Spurs. Parker signed a three-year, $43.3 million contract extension with the Spurs in August 2014. However, in the 2016 playoffs, the Spurs were defeated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the finals. In the 2017 playoffs, Parker had a ruptured left quadricep tendon that required surgery, thus ending his season early. Parker signed a two-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets in July 2018 and announced his retirement from the NBA on June 10, 2019. He also played with the French Senior National Team in the FIBA EuroBaskets of 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2013, winning a Bronze medal in 2005.
