Soeharto's Foundation Commemorates Supersemar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The historical event of 'March 11 Order' (Supersemar) is commemorated in Granadi Building at Rasuna Said, Kuningan, today. Granadi Building is the headquarter of Former President Soeharto's foundation and its network. According to the Deputy Head of Supersemar Foundation Nasaruddin Umar, the activity is held to celebrate the foundation of former President Soeharto.

"It has nothing to do with politics or legislative election," said Nasaruddin, now the Deputy of Religious Affair Minister. In the last couple of months, the picture of Soeharto waving his hand and quoting "How are you? My era is better, right?" has seen in many random spots.

Supersemar is the order signed by President Soekarno on March 11, 1966. The letter of order contains instruction towards Lieutenant General Soeharto to take all necessary means to end the worsening security situation. The letter turns into a stir as it was interpreted as Soekarno's passing his presidency to Soeharto, thus starting the whole new regime of the New Order.
