TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Qatari government will send 10,000 mobile homes to Turkey and Syria after the violent earthquakes rocked the two countries. The Qatari Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that the move is part of Qatar's efforts to help the quake-affected people in Syria and Turkey.
On Monday, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani ordered the launch of an airlift to help quake victims in Turkey. State news agency QNA said that a rescue team, a field hospital, relief aid, tents, and winter supplies will also be dispatched to the country.
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck southern Turkey's Kahramanmara province early Monday morning, followed by a 7.6 magnitude aftershock in the afternoon.
Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said that the earthquake killed at least 3,549 people and injured 21,103.
In Syria, the government and rescue teams reported that nearly 1,622 people were killed and more than 3,649 others were wounded in the disaster.
