Oklahoma softball lost Sunday to Louisiana, ending an NCAA-record 71-game win streak dating back to 2023.

The Ragin' Cajuns upset the No. 1 Sooners 7-5 in extra innings to break the historic streak.

The Sooners, who opened the 2024 season with 18 straight victories, last lost in February 2023 to Baylor.

An RBI single from Tiare Jennings pulled Oklahoma within one at the bottom of the seventh, but the Sooners committed two errors that sent the game to extra innings.

Louisiana scored three runs in the top of the eighth to pull ahead.

A home run from Cydney Sanders in the bottom of the eighth wasn't enough to recover, and the Sooners were forced to concede their first loss in over a year.

The loss marked the first time Oklahoma had recorded a trio of errors in a game since the team lost to Florida State in Game 1 of the 2021 Women's College World Series Championship series, according to Colton Sulley of The Oklahoman.

The reigning NCAA champion may have fallen to 18-1 overall with the loss, but the team can rest assured it has set a college softball record for the ages. The only other NCAA softball program to have ever recorded at least 40 straight wins is the 1996-97 Arizona Wildcats.
