Monster Bone is an ingredient in Monster Hunter World. Depending on the beast you harvest it from, and its weight, the bones come in different sizes: S (small), M (medium), L (large) and Plus. A number of players are confused over which enemies fit what category, since it isn’t easy to tell by looking. Monster Bone S
This is the smallest variant, and it is obtained from the “smallest” boss monsters. They’re the easiest to hunt, so you’ll probably only want them in the beginning. They are:

How to get Monster Bone M?
The mid-sized version comes from larger specimens that aren’t really all that scary. Things you wouldn’t call small (even by MH standards), but also not towering behemoths. Things like:
- Pukei-Pukei (Ancient Forest)
- Tobi-Kadachi (Ancient Forest)
- Jyuratodus (Wildspire Waste)
- Barroth (Wildspire Waste)
Where to find Monster Bone L?
L stands for large. You shouldn’t go after any of these guys unless you’re properly trained and equipped. You’ll find them in the late-game areas – be prepared for hour-long skirmishes. These include:
- Anjanath (Ancient Forest)
- Tzitzi-Ya-Ku (Coral Highlands)
- Paolumu (Coral Highlands)
- Radobaan (Rotten Vale)
Monster Bone Plus locations
The biggest of the big, these are the apex predators of each area. Do not attempt to take them on solo – there are always groups of hunters looking for more help. You’ll need the plus version for late game upgrades. Here they are, in all their splendor:
- Rathalos (Ancient Forest)
- Diablos (Wildspire Waste)
- Legiana (Coral Highlands)
- Odogaron (Rotten Vale)
