Personal Statement
Living in Indiana may sound simple, but living in Carmel, Indiana is competitive for adolescents, as well as adults. Carmel High School has 5,200 students. It is the only high school in Carmel, a city of 94,000, so it can house the best athletes and excel at every sport, making soccer a Division 3A sport. Trying out for soccer my freshman year was defeating, I got cut. I didn’t realize how important high school soccer was to me until it didn’t happen. I went to games and watched from the bleachers, realizing what I was missing out on. Overall, the experience was humbling. I worked very hard and came back my sophomore year to another round of grueling tryouts- the outcome was positive! I participated in two undefeated seasons on JV, including acting as team Captain my second year. In addition, I was invited to sit the Varsity Bench during 2019 sectionals which means I’m guaranteed to be on the roster for Varsity my senior year. I’m also in my third year playing tough competition at a national level for FC Pride ECNL. For the 2018/19 season my team won 4/6 games at our ECNL National events- we were 5th place overall for our region.
Soccer has always been my sport, but my hobby is fishing. It started with my dad and escalated to four sponsorships from Instagram account postings. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time I once had for fishing, but it taught me patience and focus. I’m in my 4th year of a school program called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). This is an elective, but, it has taught me college level skills in note taking and organization. AVID also requires community service work. I’ve volunteered at my church, food pantries, winter coat drives and most recently at a home/facility near a hospital for families who have relatives in the hospital for extended periods. Academically, I plan on graduating with Academic Honors from Carmel High School, in addition to the Core40 diploma. Carmel High School is known for the high level of preparation it provides its students before college and I plan on continuing my commitment to my own education through college while playing the sport I love; soccer.
