Japanese singer Maria Seiren won Japan’s Got Talent in the first show of its kind before making moves on AGT: Fantasy League. She is an opera actress with “remarkable talent for singing in both male and female voices.” Maria has been on the singing scene in Tokyo for over a decade.
The America’s Got Talent judges face off for the first time ever as they draft dream teams of fan-favourite contestants from all over the world. Contestants will compete for Golden Buzzers and studio audience votes until one act and one judge come out on top. Singer Maria Seiren has certainly got talent…
Maria Seiren won Japan’s Got Talent
Maria Seiren, known as the director of the opera company Mondo Parallelo, is a Japanese singer. In February, she won the first-ever Japan’s Got Talent final and made history!
Before her Japan Got Talent win, she made her vocal debut in December 2015, performing with the Tokyo Vivaldi Ensemble at Suntory Hall (Blue Rose). Her name Seiren comes from a mythological creature.
Seiren explains her name was originally a form of winged demon that would sing songs to deceive people that eventually evolved into more of a mermaid-type creature.
Japanese singer joins AGT Fantasy League
Following Maria’s performance, even Simon Cowell had to admit it was a pretty amazing performance, despite coming from his season rival, Mel B. “That was a surprise, I wasn’t expecting it,” he said.
However, Howie Mandel wasn’t on board, and didn’t think the performance was “great.” Seiren, who speaks Japanese, said it was a dream come true to be chosen to audition for the AGT: Fantasy League.
Mel B chose the song Time to Say Goodbye, made famous by Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli, for Maria Seiren to sing. The song was first released in 1995 on Bocelli’s second studio album, Bocelli.
She can sing in ‘male or female voices’
Many AGT viewers were shocked when Maria was able to sing with such range. She is known for her ability to “sing in male or female voices.” The star is described as “immensely talented.”
She began her first song on AGT: Fantasy League in a serene, high-pitched voice before switching to a deeper tone, leaving the NBC show’s judges utterly shocked for her How to Say Goodbye performance.
Maria was representing team Mel B on the new series. However, *spoiler* Maria didn’t get through to the semi-finals of the show, despite her incredibly moving performance.
