We all know that music is essential in both movies and TV, helping create atmosphere, tension and adding just a touch more drama to what’s on our screens.
And music is definitely helping the latest season of Love Island in some of the show’s most tense and memorable moments.
So in episode 19 (Monday, June 24th) when an argument broke out between Maura Higgins and Tom Walker, the soundtrack was essential for setting the tone in the villa.
And the choice was perfectly made, well-done soundtrack team!
Here’s everything you need to know about the song they used during the argument and what set it all off.

What song was used during Maura and Tom’s argument?
It was set up to be a perfect night for Maura and Tom, after sharing their first serious kiss, winning a challenge and the prize of spending the night in the Hideaway. But Tom quickly managed to “c***block himself” after he joked with the boys whether Maura was “all mouth” when it came to bedroom antics.
Maura shut down Tom after hearing this conversation, rendering him speechless at points.
Cue the music and emotional montage of Tom looking mournful and we have one of our favourite moments from Love Island season 5 already!
A cover of the ’90s hit ‘Don’t Speak’ by No Doubt was used to amp up the tension of the scene, fitting perfectly alongside Maura’s sentiments towards Tom.
I’m starting to think that Tom never learned what “Don’t speak to me!” means🤦♀️🙊 #loveisland

What was the cover of ‘Don’t Speak’ that they used?
The original is No Doubt’s most famous song and has been covered numerous times over the years. But it was a singer-songwriter from the UK called Beth Whale whose rendition was chosen for the scene.
Known as Beth or Beth Official on YouTube, she has been releasing covers of popular songs since 2011 and currently has nearly 600,000 subscribers.
Her most popular and well-known cover is of Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ which has 11 million views on YouTube and has won the approval of the group.
But it was her emotional rendition of the No Doubt song that was most fitting for last night’s episode (Monday, June 24th).
Beth’s songs have been on Love Island before
If you’re wondering why Beth’s sweet singing voice sounds familiar, it’s because her music has been used on Love Island before!
In season 4 episode 30, Beth’s cover of Sigma’s ‘Changing’ was used as Georgia Steel confronted Josh Denzel after he returned from Casa Amor.
Check out how Beth’s work has pulled on our heartstrings as Georgia breaks down in tears during the episode.
