Larry ‘Korch’ Korchinski, Devoted Family Man and Attorney, Dies at Age 56
Our community lost cherished son, husband, father, attorney and former hockey star Larry Michael “Korch” Korchinski this week at the far-too-young age of 56. The Saskatoon native first attracted attention as a standout youth athlete, joining the Saskatoon Blades junior team before becoming a Western Hockey League draft pick.
While playing hockey for the famed University of Saskatchewan Huskies during his college years, Larry displayed a tireless work ethic both on the ice and in academic pursuits. Rather than socializing on road trips, he studied diligently toward his law degree. Larry continued playing recreational hockey with friends throughout his adult life.
Successful Legal Career in Saskatoon
After earning his Juris Doctor, Larry was recruited by a top Calgary energy law firm. However, he returned home to Saskatoon shortly thereafter to build his distinguished career locally. Respected at every stop, Larry served as trusted in-house counsel for Cameco Corporation’s headquarters from the early 1990s until his recent passing. He took immense pride in his professional capabilities advocating for clients.
Adoring Family Man
While Larry thrived supporting clients, his greatest joy came from raising his beloved family. As devoted son and caretaker for his mother Anne after his father’s death in 2007, Larry later poured that same loving commitment into his relationships with wife Stacey and their children, Kevin and Kate.
Attending the kids’ sports competitions, family vacations to the cabin, neighborhood walks with loyal dog Indie – simple quality moments together meant everything to Larry. He leaves a lasting legacy as a caring husband, proud father and loyal son who understood family comes first.
Funeral and Remembrance Details
A Funeral Mass memorializing Larry “Korch” Korchinski has been scheduled for 2:00pm Friday, December 15, 2023 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Parish, with burial following immediately at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Larry leaves behind his heartbroken mother Anne, adoring wife Stacey, son Kevin, daughter Kate, siblings Robert, Karen, Brenda and Brian, plus many deeply saddened extended relatives and friends. While nothing can replace his comforting presence, may cherished memories carry loved ones through immense grief.
Conclusion
Saskatoon not only loses a hockey talent who brought glory to local rinks, but more importantly a genuinely good citizen committed to community. Larry Korchinski’s moral compass, work ethic and family priorities set positive examples for all to follow. May we honor his sincerity by paying kindness and decency forward. Rest peacefully, Korch.
