Katherine Zernicke's Women's Basketball Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

Basketball has been in my life for a very long time. I started playing at the age of 5 and have loved it ever since. Throughout my years, I continued to play it along with multiple other sports. However, basketball always was and still is my favorite one to play. Going into high school, I knew I would be exposed to higher competition. I was pulled up and started on varsity as a sophomore and have completely devoted myself to the sport since then.

Between school sports, a part-time job, and playing on travel teams, it's not always easy to maintain my grades because finding time is a challenge. However, I've received multiple honor roll awards and have a 3.7 accumulative GPA. My grades and basketball achievements aren't the only things I'm proud of though. If you ask anyone, whether it be a coach, teacher, or student I go to school with, they will tell you that my attitude is always positive. I always bring people up and have a happy go lucky personality. When I'm on the court with my team, I always make sure everyone gets a high five or recognition for anything they do, and that I cheer on my teammates and make sure everyone else does too.

When I first started really devoting myself to basketball as a sophomore, I didn't think I had enough skill to take it to the next level. However, when my junior year began and I realized I was the only starter to return because the others had graduated, I knew I had a big role as a leader on the team. I finished the season with almost 6 times more points per game than I had scored as a sophomore and also led my team to second in league and the semifinal round of CCS. I received 1st team all county honors, MVP, and was runner up in athlete of the year. These accomplishments, especially as the only returning starter, are what I believe makes me different from other recruits. As a senior now, with more confidence in myself, I believe I have what it takes to play at the next level.

I anticipate my high school career to end with 1200-1300 points with over 400 assists.
