John ‘Jack’ Tomchik Obituary, Death – John C. Tomchik was a beloved firefighter and member of the Wilkes-Barre City Firefighters IAFF Local 104 community, and their loss is a great loss. Honoring Jack’s life and service after his peaceful passing on December 14, 2023, his birthday is March 4, 1939. At the Corcoran Funeral Home tonight, members of L104 stood as an honor guard amid deep reverence.
Gathering together to say their last goodbyes, loved ones and coworkers paid tribute to an extraordinary man whose selfless sacrifices had a lasting effect on the world. Over the course of 36 years, Jack Tomchik worked his way up the ranks of the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department, eventually becoming the respected Deputy Chief. The department and the community it serves will never be the same because of his unfaltering commitment to duty, outstanding leadership, and selfless service.
Jack was the epitome of a firefighter throughout his career; he served with bravery, empathy, and professionalism. His remarkable leadership skills and unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property garnered him the admiration and respect of his colleagues and the community at large. Everyone who had the honor of serving under his leadership will carry his memory with them forever as a firefighter.
