Delicately and quietly on Saturday, November 19, 2022, our beloved James Rockett, JR passed away at his home in Louisville, KY.
James was born on July 27, 1949 at the Naval Regional Medical Center located in Portsmouth, VA. James was preceded in death by his loving wife Anna Rockett and his parents: James and Sarah Rockett. James was educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools. Additionally, he attended Tidewater Community College. After completing his education, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. James served four (4) years in the United States Marine Corps and one (1) year in the United States Army. James served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War during his enlistment in the military. He proudly served the United States of America. Words cannot convey our appreciation for his dedication and sacrifice. James bravery, sacrifice, and strength hasn’t gone unnoticed for what he has done for this country.
As the first born, out of eight (8) other siblings, James was highly motivated and passionate about music. He always fashioned himself as professional singer. His love of music, self -discipline and dedication has afforded him many opportunities. Throughout his life, James was a part of multiple singing groups and performed professionally on stage in many states. He was member of Brighter Day Anderson Temple Church of God In Christ located in Jeffersonville, IN.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son: James Rockett III of Portsmouth, VA; one daughter: Mae Cofield of Portsmouth, VA; three brothers: Carl J. Rockett of Moultrie, GA, Dwight C. Rockett of Portsmouth, RI, and Michael A. Rockett (Ava) of Suffolk, VA; five sisters: Carol R. Carr of Great Mills, MD, Terrie A. Rockett, Tanya L. Rockett, Janice E. Rockett, and Angela M. Rockett all of Portsmouth, VA; one aunt, Ruby M. Harris (Henry) of Jeffersonville, IN; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and cousins.
