In “I Love You”, Layton Greene is addressing her ex-boyfriend. Their breakup has been very-painful for her. Indeed by the looks of things, she was dumped. And this reality is made especially painful by certain aspects of the past spent with her partner.

Moreover when she decided to call off their relationship before, he ‘begged’ her to stay. And apparently she had sympathy on him, decided to do so and since then has grown to love him even more. Indeed “just yesterday” the two of them were seemingly inseparable.
So at the present moment, with them now being separated, her mind is plagued with images of him making love to another woman. And she’s entirely not cool with the idea, as she envisions his love belonging solely to her. Indeed Layton has concluded that this guy has ultimately misled her, as in basically making her believe his intentions were marriage, whereas apparently they were not.
But despite all of this, she is still very much in love with him. In fact the purpose of this song is not so much to delineate her gripes against her ex, as it is to let him know that she still wants him. But for now, she is obviously headed into the foreseeable future obsessed with the idea that the man she loves is sleeping with someone else.

It is important to mention that Greene has insinuated that “I Love You” is based on her real-life experiences.
Layton Green wrote the song along with its producer, G-Styles on the Track.
“I Love You” was released on 23 August 2019 by Quality Control Music. It serves as the lead single from Green’s debut EP. That EP is titled Tell Your Story.
