Hans H. Koehl Obituary, Death – The loss of Hans H. Koehl, a respected leader and prominent person in the community, has devastated the SPIROL family and everyone else. Service, ingenuity, and generosity were hallmarks of Hans Koehl’s life, which was defined by his extraordinary vision, unparalleled devotion, and constant philanthropy. After Hans’s 1948 immigration to the US, his extraordinary intelligence and academic success were immediately apparent. Hans was born in Stolberg, Germany.
His academic career at Killingly High School and The Woodstock Academy laid the groundwork for a remarkable lifelong commitment to teaching, entrepreneurship, and public service. In 1959, Hans, an industry trailblazer in engineering and manufacturing, joined SPIROL. Under his savvy guidance, the company grew into a household name with offices all over the world. Even after leaving his position as Chairman of the Holding Board of Directors in 2004,
he continued to be deeply involved in the company’s charitable work, helping to create scholarships and fund educational initiatives that had a profound effect on many people’s lives. Outside of the business world, his legacy lived on. Among Hans’s many community involvements were the Northeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, and the Danielson Exchange Club, among others. He was also an active member of numerous local boards and groups. Through his substantial support of schools and students, he nurtured young minds and fostered a passion for learning, demonstrating his commitment for education.
Hans was a caring leader, guide, and friend to a lot of people. His generous donations to organizations like Day Kimball Hospital, the Audubon Society, the YMCA, and the 4H Club demonstrate his deep commitment to helping those in need. He left an indelible mark on the world through the principles he taught, the chances he made possible, and the lives he touched, in addition to his professional accomplishments. The world will never be the same without Hans Koehl, but his leadership, generosity, and community involvement will motivate others who follow after him.

Saturday, December 16, 2023 is the date of the private ceremony. Killingly, Connecticut’s Friends of Assisi Food Pantry or the Connecticut Audubon Society would be grateful recipients of memorial contributions in Hans Koehl’s honor. He touched the lives of everyone he met with an abundance of kindness, generosity, and selflessness; his legacy will live on in history books.
