Personal Statement
I am currently a playing as an outside hitter, but I trained as middle for several years so I can play both positions with ease. If needed, I have also been trained to play back row. I am willing to try different positions on the court because it means I am helping my team and that I understand the game better. In fact, my coach for the 15 power team at Atlanta Extreme, Stan Carpenter, had me playing middle and left back during the 2015 National tournament in Orlando, where I helped my team win many matches. On the court I am known to be a loud, smart and observant player. I look for open spots, the right places to serve, and try to evaluate the trick plays so I can warn my team about them. I am also fiercely determined and do not give up on my team when we're in a tough game.
This determination carries through to my school work as I work hard to balance schoolwork and volleyball throughout the week. This includes staying up late and going to tutoring so that I keep my GPA at a 3.70 or higher. I believe grades are very important and that school is the main building block for a great future which is why I want to major, and hopefully get a bachelor's degree, in education. Volleyball has helped me prepare for this because I spend my Saturdays before club season volunteering as a coach for children at Atlanta Volleyball Academy. This has not only given me valuable learning experience for the field I want to go into, but it has also let my focus on the basic skills of volleyball whenever I teach them something new. Volleyball has changed how I work and has given me confidence. I truly love the sport and all the experiences and friends it has given me.
