Emerson Straley's Men's Golf Recruiting Profile

Personal Statement

Golf has been an integral part of my life from a very young age. I began my golf journey by participating in the First Tee program at the age of 8. This program empowered me with self-confidence and taught me important life skills and core values while playing the game I love. At a very young age, I began developing team skills by playing in the PGA Junior League. Over the years, my passion for golf and my competitive nature has inspired me to become a college athlete.

As a freshman, I competed on the high school varsity golf team. This gave me a unique opportunity to participate in a highly competitive district scene. At the District 15-6A Men’s Championship, I earned a spot to compete in the UIL 6A Region 2 Golf Championship Tournament as an individual. With great honor, I received First Team All-District recognition. The success I experienced as a freshman has continued to fuel an interest and life-long dream of playing golf in college.

I continue to develop my golf skills year round by frequently  participating in Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf tournaments and by taking private lessons. The tournaments help improve my mental toughness in the face of competition and the lessons sharpen my skills. I also enjoy playing with friends and family in charity tournaments and friendly competition.

In addition to being a skilled golfer, I am a dedicated scholar in the classroom, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I strive to excel both on the course and academically. As a student, I prioritize my studies, and my grades are of great importance to me. I feel that a well-rounded education is the key to lifelong success.

The character and leadership skills that I have developed on the golf course extends into my daily life and other extracurricular activities. I am a trombone player in my high school marching band, and I currently play in the highest-level band (out of 5 levels and 350+ members). Being a member of the Young Men’s Service League has taught me to assist, serve, and support those in need in our community. Examples of the volunteer events that I’ve participated in include delivering food and building beds for the less fortunate, placing wreaths on veterans’ graves, yard cleanup serving veterans, and working in a summer program with underprivileged children. I currently hold a leadership position in our community chapter of the Young Men’s Service League.

My journey as a dedicated golfer and my drive to succeed in the classroom showcase my ability to work hard and persevere in all situations. I want to attend college where I can continue to challenge myself both on the course and in the classroom. I’m open to exploring all collegiate options and want to find the best fit that will allow me to continue to strive for greatness!
