LONDON -- Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and her fiance, actor Michael Douglas, are celebrating the birth of their first child, a boy.
The child, named Dylan, was born Tuesday in Los Angeles just before 7 p.m. (10 p.m. ET). He weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured just over 21 inches long.
Douglas, 54, was reported to be present at the birth. He announced the child's arrival on his personal Web site.
Before the child's birth, Douglas promised to focus on its upbringing, freeing the baby's mother to pursue her film career. "I don't have a much ambition, or anything to prove in my professional life," he said, "and so what I have to prove is how good a father and what a good husband I can be."
The child's mother, 30, starred in "Mask of Zorro" (1998) and "Entrapment" (1999). She was born in Wales.

Zeta-Jones will keep her unusual surname for film work, but assume the name Douglas outside it. "She'll be Mrs. Douglas in her personal life," said Douglas. "But her name has great professional value."
Douglas already has a son, Cameron, from a previous marriage to Diandra Douglas.
