The Denver Broncos have picked up their fifth-year option on cornerback Patrick Surtain II's rookie contract, connecting him with the team through the 2025 season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Surtain joined the Broncos with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. He enjoyed a stellar career at Alabama before then, earning consensus All-American honors and winning a national title with the Crimson Tide in 2020.

The 6'2" cornerback made first-team All-Pro in 2022 and made the first of his two Pro Bowl teams in that year as well. Over his three-year career, Surtain has amassed 36 pass breakups, 187 tackles and seven interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Surtain has only missed one game during his NFL tenure, and he's started each of the Broncos' 34 matchups over the past two years.

Surtain is the son of former NFL cornerback Patrick Surtain, a three-time Pro Bowler who played for the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs from 1998-2008.

Ultimately, picking up the fifth-year option was a formality for the Broncos, who will continue to enjoy Surtain being a bedrock on the back end of the team's defense for at least two more seasons.
