BMKG Forecasts Regular Peak Rainy Season Over Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Wednesday predicted that the peak rainy season of 2022-2023 nationwide will take place in December this year. Based on the climatological average of rainfall accumulation during an extensive period of 1991-2020, this rainy season will generally be typical.

"The conclusion is that the rainy season in 2022-2023 will arrive earlier than normal, with rain characteristics similar to or the same as the usual rainy season," said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati, Wednesday, August 31, Antaranews reported.

She explained that there would be regions experiencing the wet season earlier than others which include part of southern Sumatra Island, part of Java, part of the eastern part of Kalimantan, part of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, part of East Nusa Tenggara, part of Sulawesi, the southern part of North Maluku, the western part of Maluku and western and southern part of Papua.

The aforementioned regions are said to have entered the rainy season in September. Some of them have entered the rainy season from July to August. Compare this with the rest who entered it in October (25.03 percent ZOM), and in November (18.31 percent ZOM), and some of them were only in December and January to May 2023.
