Ali Khamenei Net Worth: Supreme Leader of Iran

Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran and a Shia Cleric, has a net worth of $500 thousand. He is considered the most powerful political authority in Iran and was listed as the 21st most powerful person in the world by Forbes in 2012. Khamenei assumed office as the 2nd Supreme Leader of Iran in June 1989, succeeding Ruhollah Khomeini, who passed away. He has authored seven books and issued a fatwa saying that stockpiling and producing nuclear weapons was forbidden under Islam. Ali married Khojaste Bagherzadeh in 1964 and has six children.

Despite the Iranian regime’s claim that Khamenei lives an extremely modest life, there are rumors that he controls a financial empire worth north of $100 billion. An investigation by Reuters in 2013 revealed that Khamenei’s assets are allegedly controlled through an organization called “Setad Ejraiye Farmane Hazrate Emam,” which reportedly controls a vast portfolio of stakes in real estate, finance, oil, telecom, farming, and more. Reuters believes that Khamenei is the sole controller of Setad. While there is no evidence that Khamenei has personally benefited from the empire, he allegedly uses Setad to exert power through mechanisms like asset and real estate forfeitures from people he perceives as enemies.
